I remember long ago reading (or maybe hearing) a quote by that great man, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad (I don't remember it 100% exact) stated that what you love to do is more than likely what you were born to do. For a long time I grappled with this because there were many things I was interested in and many things I found myself good at, but there was nothing I could say that I 'loved'. To supplement that I also recalled reading that you know you love something when you are OBSESSED with it.
I can say now that since finding metalsmithing I have found my 3rd true love, except this one isn't a man lol. I truly believe that to find balance and harmony in life you need to establish 3 loves in your life. Those being: 1. God 2. significant other 3. your craft or work... and perhaps after that raising children. Last night I spent 3 of some of the best hours of my life in my metalsmithing class. All I kept thinking to myself was 'Wow, thank you God for allowing me to experience this' because I've never felt this kind of excitement, fulfillment and dedication towards doing a thing.
My current project is making a tower ring. I've always maintained an attraction to architectural or on the contrast very organic structures. I was inspired by the silhouette and texture of a leaf and duplicated and stacked the shape. I'm so pleased with how it's turning out, but as usual I may have been a little to ambitious as it's taken me almost 3 classes now to finish it! However, it's 98% complete and I can't wait to show everyone the final product!! ❤
